not as easy as it looks..
My husband's boss has two Aussie farm dogs. I've been grooming them once a year around this time for 4 years. Shave downs, of coarse.
This guy is a millionaire. His wife called me a few days ago and left a message for appt. I called back and the husband answered, didn't know she had called for appt. The wife gets on the phone and says, "Oh, Hubby bought a set of clippers and is gonna have 12 year old Daughter groom the dogs"
I say, "oh, OK, tell her to be careful and call me if you have any problems"
I say to my husband, "You have a stubborn boss. The dog will end up here or at the emergency vet, you wait."
I groom 5 small dogs on Sat. and am sitting in the sun with MY dog, relaxing and wife calls.
"Um, Hubby shaved the dog and made a mess and the dog looks horrible, can you fix it?"
She brings the dog and Daughter, (i have no problem showing someone who is interested, how to use clippers.)
Dog is clipper burned all along his back, poor thing. Hubby bought $200.00 plus Oster clippers. She brought them, he was using the ten blade. They also came with a 7F. Lucky dog, he didn't use those.
I used my Andes and showed her to use the Osters, MAN! Those things get HOT!!!
I asked "how did your Dad use them?"
She started to go at the dog backwards, upside down, against the fur, I grabbed them in time!
I should mention, these are two of the meanest dogs I have ever met when it comes to strangers. Got the rest of the pelt off, oatmeal bath and sent home with Peace and Kindness.
Dog wasn't quite done in these pics, he was having a rest. Did a pink mohawk, but camera ran out of juice.
The other dog comes soon, along with daughter. I liked her, she listened to all I said.

This is excatly why pet owners should use a professional groomer....or at the veyr least, they should consult with a professional groomer before attempting a home groom. You have the patience of Job, lorie........

Re: not as easy as it looks..
OMG ~ That does look SO painful. The peace and kindness is really gonna help that out ~ great idea, I LOVE that stuff, but are you sure he did all of that damage, just from the shave off? Sure it's not staph or mange or some other derm issue? Those blotches and strips just look like there is something else - stupid man.. sorry, but why didn't he just stop when he noticed he was taking skin off with those clippers? And you know, I would be half tempted to contact the company who sold the clippers to the man, and forward that pic over to them, and see what they have to say. I'd hold them liable for selling a professional pair of clippers to a pet owner ~ they could at least pay the vet bill for the dog, IF the owner takes the dog to the vet.
Thank God, they had you to step in and finish the poor dog.

Re: not as easy as it looks..
I'm pretty certain he did all that, it was only red where HE clipped, not anywhere else.
They were Oster's, do they sell them at Petsomethings?
I can't believe how fast they got hot!
I think that is all clipper burn.
I probably should call her and say to see the vet but I don't want to talk to him. If he answers, he'll think I am gloating, that's how he is.
He spent more than 200.00 on clippers, plus, 60.00 for me to finish and they have another one that still has to be done.
Like I said, they are millionaires but he is too cheap to go to the vet.

Re: not as easy as it looks..
Holy crap!
I think I better call them. If that little girl gets it in her head to use them on the other dog....
Maybe i could tell them they are defective because they got hot too fast?

Re: not as easy as it looks..
OMG!!! That poor poor dog! Funny but a guy my hubby works for also bought himself a clipper and wanted me to show him how to groom his dog. I told him sure but I charge $$$ per hour for teaching. You might want to mention that to the childs parents, why should you spend your time teaching their child something so they can not pay you! Also if these dogs have a mean streak and the girl accidently cuts the dog it could end up with more than just pain for the dog.

Re: not as easy as it looks..
One week later.... dog has healed nicely, just with the P&K.
But scabs became flaky and stuck so he came for an oatmeal bath, along with the other to be shaved and Daughter with her clippers.
Had her check her blade and take it off an oil it several times. Probably overkill but, whatever....
She did most of the work, I got paid full price.
She's a lefty so she couldn't use my shears. Gave her an old petedge mag. She needs her own muzzle for those two also.
She's twelve but as big as I am and stronge. I'm giong to let her help me on Sat's this summer.
